Steve Nesbitt is an insurance veteran with almost four decades in the industry. He currently serves as CEO for Sunstar’s Southern Region, where he oversees operations in AL and GA. Simultaneously, he serves as Chief Acquisition Officer, identifying and acquiring agencies across our footprint, with a primary focus on MS, TN, SC, NC, VA, and the FL panhandle.

Steve previously served as the President and Chief Executive Officer for Petra Risk Management Services (Petra RMS), a growing risk management and insurance agency with seven locations across the Southeast. He also previously served as the President of SS Nesbitt and Company. Steve started the business in January 2000 and then sold the agency to EBSCO Industries in 2001. He grew the agency from a one-person operation into the second-largest privately-held insurance agency in the state of Alabama. Steve has also held prior roles as an underwriter and as a producer, managing a one-million-dollar book of commission revenue. He holds a B.S. degree from the University of Alabama in Finance – Insurance and Risk Management. He also obtained his Master of Health Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

He serves on the Board of several organizations and is very involved with his church, Mountain Brook Community Church, where he has served in numerous positions, including Elder.

Steve and his wife have three children. During his free time, Steve enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family and his two dogs.
