Steve Nesbitt, MHA, CIC

Steve Nesbitt serves as Southeast Regional Director for Sunstar Insurance Group, where he oversees operations across Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, and offices in North Carolina and Florida. An insurance veteran with nearly four decades of experience, Steve brings deep industry expertise and a proven track record of leadership to the organization.

Steve founded Petra Risk Management Services (Petra RMS) in 2015 and led its growth into a successful, multi-location risk management and insurance agency across the Southeast. Following its sale to Sunstar in 2021, he continued in a leadership role, previously serving as President and Chief Executive Officer. Earlier in his career, Steve founded SS Nesbitt and Company in 2000, later selling the agency to EBSCO Industries in 2001. Under his leadership, the firm grew from a one-person operation into the second-largest privately held insurance agency in Alabama. He has also held roles as an underwriter and producer, managing a one-million-dollar book of commission revenue.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance with a concentration in Insurance and Risk Management from the University of Alabama, as well as a Master of Health Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Steve serves on the board of several organizations and is actively involved with his church, Mountain Brook Community Church, where he has held numerous leadership roles, including Elder. He and his wife have three children and three grandchildren. In his free time, Steve enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family and two dogs.
