Steve Nesbitt, MHA, CIC

Steve Nesbitt is an insurance veteran with almost four decades in the industry. He currently serves as CEO for Sunstar’s Southern Region, where he oversees operations in Alabama and Georgia.

Steve previously served as the President and Chief Executive Officer for Petra Risk Management Services (Petra RMS), a growing risk management and insurance agency with seven locations across the Southeast. He also served as the President of SS Nesbitt and Company, which he founded in January 2000 and later sold to EBSCO Industries in 2001. Under his leadership, the agency grew from a one-person operation into the second-largest privately held insurance agency in Alabama. Steve has also held prior roles as an underwriter and as a producer, managing a one-million-dollar book of commission revenue.

He holds a B.S. degree from the University of Alabama in Finance with a concentration in Insurance and Risk Management and earned his Master of Health Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Steve serves on the board of several organizations and is actively involved with his church, Mountain Brook Community Church, where he has served in numerous positions, including Elder. He and his wife have three children. In his free time, Steve enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family and two dogs.
